NASH Maritime undertakes navigation risk assessment for Thames Tideway demobilisation

NASH Maritime has been commissioned to undertake the Navigation Risk Assessment for the demobilisation and cofferdam removal at Thames Tideway’s Chambers Wharf site in Bermondsey, London.

The Chambers Wharf site was a main drive site for Thames Super Sewer tunnelling works and one of the busiest locations on the project for the import and export of materials by water.

Now the tunnelling works have completed, works are being undertaken to remove temporary in-river structures and reinstate sites back to the city and its people. As part of the works consenting process, a Navigation Risk Assessment is required.

Land & Water Services Ltd, the engineering contractor undertaking the cofferdam removal for Tideway East, has asked NASH Maritime to assess the navigational risk associated with the decommissioning works.

The NASH Maritime team have an intimate understanding of navigation on the tidal Thames and a strong track record in delivering Navigation Risk Assessments across the river.  The team will carefully blend this expert knowledge with data analysis and local marine stakeholder consultation to ensure any adverse impacts to navigation are mitigated.

NASH Maritime Project Manager, Sam Anderson-Brown, said,

“We’re delighted to move into the next phase of work for the Chambers Wharf site.  Having been in operation for around six years, this is a milestone in many respects, especially for river users.
“Our assessment will be undertaken drawing on our extensive experience across the River Thames and in accordance with the PLA authorised navigation risk assessment methodology.”

Aaron Harpur, Land & Water Commercial Manager, said,

"Nash Maritime have provided Land & Water with expert professional advice and assistance with our navigational risk assessments in preparation for our decommissioning works of both cofferdam structures at King Edwards Memorial Park and at Chambers Wharf on the River Thames as part of the ongoing Thames Tideway project."

Members of the NASH Maritime team have been involved with the Thames Tideway project since 2015 and recently completed a similar study for the cofferdam removal at the King Edward Memorial Park site.

Tideway East is a CVB JV.
